McCormack Irrigation serves Sag Harbor, NY, with lawn sprinkler installation, spring turn on, winterizing, sprinkler repair, backflow testing, landscape lighting, drip irrigation, and commercial irrigation. We cover the Village of Sag Harbor, the hamlet of Noyac (also spelled Noyack), and the Village of North Haven across the bridge. Family owned and operated since 2001, we serve all of Suffolk County and Nassau County, and the Sag Harbor area is a regular part of our East End route.
Sag Harbor is an old whaling port that straddles two towns. Division Street marks the line between the Town of Southampton and the Town of East Hampton, and the village’s business district is a National Register historic district. That history shapes the irrigation work. Village lots are compact, houses are close together, and many yards are laid out around brick walks, old trees, and gardens rather than open lawn. A few miles west in Noyac and north in North Haven, lots open up, wells are common, and bay wind becomes the main design factor.
Whatever the property, the crew is ours. Every McCormack technician is a trained, uniformed employee. We never use subcontractors, in Sag Harbor or anywhere else.
The Village of Sag Harbor sits on Upper Sag Harbor Cove and the harbor itself, with Long Wharf at the foot of Main Street and residential streets climbing away from the water toward Otter Pond and the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike. The village’s own Local Waterfront Revitalization Program highlights water quality, stormwater, and the Havens Beach watershed as ongoing priorities, which is one more reason we set controllers to avoid runoff onto streets and into the harbor. Village properties tend to be small and shaded, so we use short-radius sprays and drip, and we account for root competition from the mature trees that line the older streets.
Noyac, west of the village, is a different landscape. The Town of Southampton’s Noyac hamlet study describes a community centered on Noyac Road, bounded by Long Beach Road and Whalebone Landing Road, with Noyac Bay to the north, roughly 1,993 housing units, and about 38 percent of them seasonal dwellings on lots from 10,000 to 80,000 square feet. Bayfront lots along Long Beach and Noyac Bay take steady wind off the Peconic, so rotors, low-angle nozzles, and early morning run times matter. The seasonal share is why we book so many Noyac winterizings in September and early October, before owners head back west.
North Haven, reached from the village over the LCpl Jordan Haerter Veterans Memorial Bridge, is a peninsula bordered by Noyac Bay, Shelter Island Sound, and Sag Harbor Cove, with 2.71 square miles and just over five miles of roads, according to the Village of North Haven. The village lists both Suffolk County Water Authority service and private well water for its residents. That split runs through the whole Sag Harbor area. Where SCWA serves a property, the odd/even lawn watering policy applies: odd addresses on odd calendar days, even on even, with no automatic irrigation between 10 AM and 4 PM. On private wells the limiting factors are pump capacity and recovery rate, so we size zones so the well is never asked to deliver more than it can.
Soil and freeze timing round out the picture. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County’s landscape soil guide notes that glacial moraine and outwash leave the same property with several soil types in different spots, and that most Long Island soils hold only 3 to 5 percent organic matter, so deep, infrequent watering between midnight and 8 AM is the recommended pattern. Coastal locations average their first fall frost in mid to late November, per the Northeast Regional Climate Center, which gives Sag Harbor a long fall window for winterizing, though most of our customers do not wait that long.
Sag Harbor homeowners tend to know their neighbors and compare notes, and we have earned our place in those conversations. McCormack Irrigation has served Suffolk County since 2001, our customers have given us a 4.9 out of 5 rating across 328 Google reviews (read them on our Google reviews page), and we hold an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
From Sag Harbor our crews continue south down the Turnpike to Bridgehampton and Sagaponack, west through Noyac and Water Mill into the rest of the Town of Southampton, east along Route 114 into East Hampton Village and the Town of East Hampton out to Montauk, and across the water to Shelter Island. The complete list is on our Cities We Serve page.
Do you service Noyac and North Haven as well as Sag Harbor Village?
Yes. We install, repair, turn on, and winterize irrigation systems throughout the Village of Sag Harbor, the hamlet of Noyac, and the Village of North Haven, on both the Southampton and East Hampton sides of Division Street.
My Sag Harbor property is on a private well. Can you still install a system?
Yes. We design well-fed systems around the pump’s capacity and recovery rate, sizing zones so the well is never overdrawn. Many Noyac and North Haven properties run this way.
Can you install irrigation on a small village lot with old trees and brick walks?
Yes. We plan trench routes around roots and hardscape, use short-radius sprays and drip where lawn is limited, and restore surfaces when the work is done.
When should I winterize in Sag Harbor?
Most Sag Harbor customers book winterizing between mid-September and the end of October. Coastal areas freeze later than inland Long Island, but seasonal owners usually want the system drained before they close the house.
Does the SCWA odd/even schedule apply to me?
If your property is on Suffolk County Water Authority water, yes: odd addresses on odd days, even on even, with no automatic watering between 10 AM and 4 PM. Private well properties are not on the district schedule.
Do I need backflow testing?
If your system connects to public water, annual backflow testing is required. Our New York State certified testers perform the test and file the paperwork with the water district.
Can you service my system while I am away for the season?
Yes. We routinely coordinate with caretakers, house managers, and property managers to complete turn ons, repairs, and winterizing when owners are not on site.
Do you repair irrigation systems you did not install?
Yes. We repair any residential or commercial system in the Sag Harbor area, including older village systems with mixed parts from previous repairs.
Is drip irrigation a good choice for a Sag Harbor garden?
It is ideal for perennial borders, boxwood, roses, and containers on compact lots. Drip waters at the root, keeps foliage dry, and does not spray onto walks, fences, or the neighbor’s porch.
Do you install landscape lighting in Sag Harbor?
Yes. We install low voltage LED landscape lighting, including color changing fixtures, with placement chosen to complement historic facades, garden paths, and waterfront decks.
Whether you are in the village, out on Noyac Road, or across the bridge in North Haven, McCormack Irrigation is ready to install, repair, turn on, or winterize your system and light your landscape. Call (631) 744-1500 or contact us online to schedule. Every client. Every day. Period.
